If you were to ask a random person on any given day, they would tell you that they love music. Likewise, if you were to ask them who the composer of the piece was, there is a good chance they would adopt a look of confusion and avoid the question. There is much more to music then “I like it.”  As an educator, I strive to empower my students to make these discoveries on their own. I want to give them the tools to objectively and subjectively evaluate multiple genres of music.

I approach lessons in two ways:

1) technique

2) enjoyment

 

To be a well rounded musician, I encourage my students to understand the WHY behind technique, the STORY behind music and the HOW it effects the music we are making. Using my knowledge of music history and vocal pedagogy, I encourage the student to discover the answers to those questions as we learn. All of this can be achieved through fun and foster a love of learning! I welcome students of all ages and have multiple students who perform regularly through out the KC metro.
